Common use

Jalyn (dutasteride and tamsulosin) is prescribed for the management of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) in men. Dutasteride works by reducing the size of the prostate over time by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), while tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms.

Dosage and direction

Jalyn is taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Dosage adjustments are based on medical evaluation and kidney or liver function. Consistent daily use is required to achieve maximum benefit.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, low blood pressure, prostate cancer, or a history of fainting. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Routine prostate screenings should continue, as Jalyn does not prevent prostate cancer.

Contraindications

Do not use Jalyn if allergic to dutasteride, tamsulosin, or any capsule ingredients. It is contraindicated in women, children, and men with known hypersensitivity to similar drugs.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, ejaculation disorders, decreased libido, and fatigue. Serious side effects may include allergic reactions, fainting, severe dizziness, or breast lumps. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Jalyn may interact with other alpha-blockers, antifungal drugs, certain antibiotics, and medications affecting liver enzymes. Always inform your doctor of all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is near the time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at once.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe dizziness, low blood pressure, or other side effects. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Jalyn at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep capsules in the original container and out of reach of children.
