Common use
Metaglip is an oral antidiabetic medication used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It combines Glipizide, a sulfonylurea that increases insulin release, and Metformin, a biguanide that decreases liver glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.

Dosage and direction
Take Metaglip once or twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Follow your doctor's dosage instructions carefully and do not skip doses, even if you feel well.

Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart disease, or a history of alcohol abuse. Avoid excessive alcohol use while on Metaglip, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.

Contraindications
Do not use Metaglip if you have severe kidney dysfunction, metabolic acidosis, or are allergic to Glipizide, Metformin, or other sulfonylureas. It should not be used during episodes of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Possible side effect
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and headache. Serious but rare risks include lactic acidosis, low blood sugar (especially in elderly patients), or allergic reactions.

Drug interaction
Tell your doctor about all medications, including NSAIDs, diuretics, steroids, and beta-blockers, as they may affect blood sugar levels. Avoid contrast dye for imaging procedures while on Metaglip unless advised otherwise.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it with your next meal unless it’s almost time for the next one. Never take two doses at once to compensate for a missed dose.

Overdose
An overdose may cause hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like confusion, rapid breathing, or muscle pain occur.

Storage
Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
