Common use

Micogel (metronidazole) is prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea and other bacterial skin infections. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and reducing inflammation, redness, and pustules.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer of Micogel to the affected area of the skin, usually once or twice daily, as directed by your healthcare provider. Wash and dry the skin before application. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin. Wash your hands after applying.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have allergies to metronidazole or other medications, liver disease, or a history of skin sensitivity. Avoid prolonged sun exposure or use sun protection, as skin may become more sensitive. Do not use on large areas of broken skin.

Contraindications

Do not use Micogel if allergic to metronidazole or any component of the gel. Avoid use in patients with severe liver impairment without medical advice.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include mild burning, stinging, dryness, itching, or redness at the application site. Serious side effects are rare but may include severe allergic reactions, rash, or swelling. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Topical metronidazole has minimal systemic absorption, but inform your doctor if you are taking oral metronidazole or other medications that may interact.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed application.

Overdose

Overdose is unlikely with topical use, but excessive application may cause increased skin irritation. Seek medical advice if severe irritation occurs.

Storage

Store Micogel at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
